Aquatic Survey of Withy PoolTuesday 23rd September, 10am-4pm.

Explore the ecology within Withy Pool, which is one of the oldest pools in the park.

Aquatic Survey of Hinkshay PoolsThursday 25th September, 10am-4pm.

Explore the ecology within Hinkshay Pools. As well as the pools here we will also be surveying a stretch of water nearby which used to be part of the Shropshire Canal many years ago.

But if archaeology ifs more your thing then you might be interested in volunteering for an archaeological dig which is being led by Nexus Heritage  in Telford Town Park from Thursday 16th – Sunday 19th October.

Volunteers are wanted to help carry out the dig and the public are invited to come and see the dig in action on the Saturday and Sunday.

This year the community excavation will focus on discovering archaeological remains from the pre-industrial period. The dig will take place in an area within the park known as the ‘Village Green’. The trenches will be situated within fomer fields that according to histoic map regression has not been affected by the nearby industrial activity. So we know that there has been little activity on the site in recent history although we do know that several hundreds of years ago a small village existed in the area. Who knows what we might find…

To volunteer for the dig or for more information please call 01952 384 776 or 01952 382 340 or email TelfordTownPark@telford.gov.uk.

This event is funded by the Parks for People programme, a joint initiative by the BIG Lottery and Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).
